About · the shop, the tools, the companies

Started in a Baltimore detail bay

We build service businesses and run them ourselves. We fund them, too, and we put what works behind other owners. All of it traces back to one shop.

Who we are

We build service companies and run them

What we do today, and the two ways we work with owners.

We are a holding company in Baltimore, Maryland. We build service businesses and run them ourselves, with our own money behind each one. We also put money into owners we believe in, and we help others grow the businesses they already have. It started in 2023 with one mobile detailing shop, Obsidian Detail Studios, and our founder was its whole staff. The software we built to keep that shop booked became OmniScale. When other detailers asked how the shop booked so much work, Scale Detailing grew out of the answer, and Scale Command, our partner app, came out of that work.

We pay for each new company out of the ones already running. No investor has a stake in any of them, so there is no board to report to, and a company we start stays with us for as long as it works. Obsidian Products and Onyx Window Cleaning are the ones in build now.

We work with owners two ways. Through Scale Detailing, a detail shop gets what ours runs on: ads, a website that brings in search traffic, Google Business Profile work, follow-up, sales reps on the phone with the leads, and attribution that shows what each customer cost. Or we buy into or partner on a business an owner runs today. Both paths are laid out on the partner page. Either one starts with a message.

The story · the shop, then the tools

The shop came first

In 2023 our founder, JC Acosta, ran Obsidian Detail Studios by himself, a mobile detailing business in Baltimore and Towson, Maryland. He washed the cars and applied the coatings. He also answered the phone, and the invoices went out after hours.

A full calendar brought its own problem. Every booking and every follow-up still ran through one person, and that person was out washing cars all day. The fixes he built for his own shop became OmniScale in 2024, one platform for the bookings, the follow-ups, the payments and the reviews. Our shop ran on it before any outside shop did.

Scale Detailing had started the same year as Obsidian. Other detailers wanted to know how the shop stayed booked, so we put the same systems, plus the ads and a sales program, behind detailing, ceramic coating, PPF and window tint shops outside Baltimore. In 2025 a scorecard called Scale Toolkit went into private build. It graded a detail business and pointed at what to fix next. We rebuilt it in 2026 and shipped it under a new name, Scale Command, as the partner app. It lines up leads against paid jobs and ad spend, so an owner knows what it took to win each customer.

That same year the Scale Equity Ventures name went over all of it, and Obsidian Products and Onyx Window Cleaning moved into build. Obsidian Products is a pro-series chemical line: what our detailers use on customer vehicles, offered to other shops. Onyx Window Cleaning is a second trade, set up to run on the same booking and follow-up systems as our detailing side, reviews and all. And Obsidian, the shop that started it, still has paying customers on the calendar.

Timeline · 2023 to 2026

What we added each year

Each company was built while running the one before it, so the dates tell it in order.

2023

Obsidian and Scale Detailing

Obsidian Detail Studios opens in Baltimore. Scale Detailing starts the same year, to carry what works in the bay to other shops.

2024

OmniScale

The fixes we built for Obsidian become OmniScale. Our shop is the first one on it.

2025

Scale Toolkit in private build

A scorecard that grades a detail business and points at what to fix next. Built in private, and it never ships under that name.

2026

Scale Command ships

Toolkit comes back rebuilt as Scale Command and ships to partners. Obsidian Products and Onyx Window Cleaning go into build. The Scale Equity Ventures name goes over the whole thing.

JC Acosta

Founder · owner and operator

JC started Obsidian Detail Studios in 2023 and spent that first year doing all of the work himself. OmniScale and Scale Detailing came out of that shop, and Scale Equity Ventures came out of them. He owns the company outright and has never taken an investor. He runs it day to day.

Principles

The rules we run on

These decide what we start and what we keep.

01

We own what we build

Every company we have started is still ours, and we run each one ourselves. When one works, it stays with us.

02

Built for owners

Each system we put behind a partner was built by an owner for his own shop, back when he was the one answering the phone. Scale Detailing carries the same systems to shops that are not ours.

03

Prove it in one, then sell to many

Before Scale Detailing offers a system to anyone, it runs on Obsidian's calendar. That shop has paying customers on the books. A tool that breaks there gets found out before a partner sees it.

04

Owner-run, no outside money

Our founder owns the company, and nobody else's money is in it. The person who makes a call is the one who pays if it is wrong, and nothing waits on a board.
