Run it first. Then sell it.
Anything we sell ran in our own shop first, on paying jobs, and it still does. Below is the order we work in and the company behind each step.

Why the order matters
We run a system inside a company we own before we offer it to anyone else, and we keep running it there after it ships. If we skipped that part, we would be guessing at whether it works.
That is why we still run Obsidian Detail Studios while the software side grows. The shop takes paying work year round, so when the calendar has a hole in it or a quote gets no reply, we feel it first. A fix runs on our own jobs before it goes near a partner's.
We also grow only as fast as our own companies let us. OmniScale started because bookings and follow-ups kept slipping in the bay. Scale Command came later, when the question turned into which ad dollar had become which paid job, and we wanted that answer on a phone.
Each step, and where it came from
A system goes through these in order, and Scale Detailing sells nothing that has not cleared the first two.

01
Run the business
We keep a working shop and answer for its calendar. That shop is Obsidian Detail Studios, in Baltimore and Towson. A slow week there costs us money we would have made. That is how we decide whether a problem is worth building for.
Obsidian Detail Studios, est. 2023. For its first year our founder was the only person in it, from the wash to the invoice.

02
Build what breaks
We build when something in the shop breaks: a booking that falls through, a follow-up that never goes out. The fix runs at Obsidian, with its customers on the other end, until it has held up long enough to trust. OmniScale started as a fix like that for one shop, and it only became a product after the shop had been running on it.
OmniScale, 2024, built to run Obsidian before anyone else, from the first booking to the review request. Scale Command, 2026, ties each lead to the paid job and the ad dollar behind it, so an owner knows which ad dollars came back as paid jobs.

03
Hand it to other owners
Shops we do not own come in through Scale Detailing. We put the software and the playbook behind detailing, ceramic coating, PPF and window tint shops in other cities. That means paid ads on Meta and Google, a site built to show up in search, the Google Business Profile, follow-up that runs on its own, a sales rep on every lead, and attribution that shows which ad spend paid for which jobs. All of it ran at Obsidian first.
How it starts: we look over the shop's ads, its site, its Google listing and its follow-up for free, then get on a call to go through it and set a start date. 200+ detailers have come in this way.

04
Keep what works
When something holds up inside one company, we give it a company of its own. Obsidian Products is the chemicals our detailers already use on customer cars, in a bottle made for other shops. Onyx Window Cleaning takes the booking, follow-up and review systems from the shop and points them at glass, with two lanes (homes and commercial buildings) and a route the customer stays on, both decided before the first job. Neither one is for sale yet.
Keeping it does not always mean keeping the name. Scale Toolkit, the shop scorecard we kept in private build through 2025, came out in 2026 rebuilt as Scale Command.

What we say no to
Each of these can be checked against a company we run today.
Outside capital
Our founder owns all of it, with no investor behind it and no board over it. We start a company when the existing ones can pay for it, and once it runs, it stays ours.
Pre-selling
Obsidian Products has no site because there is no finished bottle to sell yet. Onyx Window Cleaning is not booking. Their pages say so, and they will change the day either one has something to sell.
Untested advice
Scale Detailing recommends what we have run ourselves. If a system never carried an Obsidian job, or carried one and failed, it does not go in the playbook and it does not go behind a partner's shop.
Grow it, or sell it
Run a detailing, ceramic coating, PPF or tint shop? Scale Detailing starts with a free audit, then a call. Would rather sell or partner the business you run? That path is on the same page.
