The first company and the test bay
Obsidian Detail Studios is our mobile detailing shop in Baltimore and Towson, Maryland. It is where we started. It still books paying customers every week, and every system we sell runs on an Obsidian calendar before it reaches anyone else.
A one-person shop in 2023
In 2023 our founder was the whole shop. What we built to run it is where our software started.
Our founder ran Obsidian alone, which meant washing the cars, applying the coatings, answering the phone and sending the invoices after hours.
Doing all of it by hand showed us where a shop needs a system. In 2024 we built booking, follow-up, payments and reviews for this shop first. Anyone else's shop came after.
The shop kept booking the whole time. The software we wrote to run it became OmniScale. Then other detailers started asking what we were doing differently, and what we told them turned into Scale Detailing.
What the studio does
We come to the car. This is the work we do on it.
Correction, then coating
We correct the paint before we coat it. Correction takes the swirls and marring out of the clear coat. A coating locks in whatever sits under it, flaws included, which is why we never do it the other way around.
Full interior and exterior
Inside the car we clean the leather, the carpet, the glass and the trim. The outside gets a wash and a decontamination, then a layer of protection over the paint once it is clean.
Maintenance plans
A coated car still needs washing, and washing it wrong undoes the work. A plan keeps that job with the people who applied the coating. It also fills our calendar ahead of time, which matters to a shop that once booked one call at a time.
Why we keep the shop
A playbook nobody has run on a real customer is just a document.
Our founder
That is why the shop stays. A demo account has no Saturday to lose. Anything new runs on this calendar first, on paying customers, and Scale Detailing hands it to partners after that.
